Per our class discussion today, the following are a list of points that must be addressed in the proposal:
1) a brief narrative describing the proposed work
2) significance of the project
3) time-line for completion of the project
4) potential for continued external funding for the project
5) statement justifying the requested resources necessary to complete the project
also:
a) who is our audience?
b) what is the mission of this publication?
c) how can this publication create exposure, enhance notoriety and encourage donations?

a) I think trying to predict our audience is an exercise in futility. Just as no architect can unequivocally predict exactly how a public building will be used or by whom, we cannot hope to accurately forecast who will pick up our book and make use of it, or how. And attemping to cater to a certain audience is an act of vanity as well; there is no use in hollowing out our efforts in hopes of impressing those around us. Thus, I think our best recourse would be to proceed forward and create a publication that is accessible, understandable, even global, but does not pander to any particular group.
b) The mission of the publication is to provide one coat of alluring provocation over three even coats of inquisition with a base coat of philosophy.
More specifically, I suggest we pose an inquiry into the idea of self-organizing systems by simultaneously addressing the process we have experienced and have yet to experience in composing a successful publication (i.e. self-organizing, self-governing networks and ideas) and also the inherent connections between the collection of seemingly disparate topics we have gathered over the past weeks.
c) First, I hesitate to use the word "notoriety" because it has inherently negative connotations, as in someone being "notorious" for some undesirable quality. Perhaps "recognition" or "accreditation." As for exposure and the encouragement of donations, I think we can posit as a rebel group of rogue publishers that we have the wherewithal to pose a tolerably serious and subtly humorous inquiry into the life of the Universe using our outrageous human intellect. To show that we are passionate about furthering the inquiry of both architecture and philosophy is to show that we mean business.
d) I think our next major step is to begin making the connections between topics--we've spent plenty of time developing a solid base and now must test the precariousness of our endeavors.
i agree with justin, although i dont think that we are trying to "cater" to anyone, nor should we. i think it is impossible to predict who will be interested in reading this, but our purpose as i understood initially was to represent the students and the architecture program of cal poly. anyone who is interested in what the architecture school at cal poly is THINKING will be our audience.
we are not doing this in a "yearbook" fashion, rather we are representing the interests, thoughts, and ideas of the students in this program. our purpose could possibly be to define what architecture is about at cal poly, by defining the ideas of the students (which i think define the program).
i just have a general suggestion. i work for a group on campus which calls people associated with cal poly to donate to specific departments within the university. we are always told to aim high on donation amount, as it increases the chances of securing a larger donation, rather than asking for a lower amount and steadily decreasing from that. i think we should do something similar with this application. i remember someone mentioning 10k as a desirable amount. let's ask for 15k, or even 20k -- if they are going to give us money, they would be more likely to give us more than 10k as a result.
in response to sigita's comment: "our purpose could possibly be to define what architecture is about at cal poly, by defining the ideas of the students (which i think define the program)."
i agree. so i see the purpose and role of our group [formally arch 400] is to initiate this process in hopes that our efforts will become contagious… we will involve others within the school. ideally, arch 400 will act as both a contributor and as an organizer of essays and ideas. i imagine organizing some sort of submission system so that all students and faculty have the opportunity to contribute.
